Australians in Indonesia

You are in: Home > FAQ > Who are we? > Australians in Indonesia

We would all be aware of the imminent execution of two Australians in Indonesia.
I believe it is very important that a community such as ours is clear in its response to matters literally of life and death. As a Catholic College, and very much in the Franciscan way, we affirm life.

Our faith story is one of upholding life as sacred; Jesus Christ came "that we may have life, and have it to the full".....all people, women and men, slave and free, sinners and saints, every person with the gift of life deserves and is called to live life fully.

Jesus said to the disciples, "Be merciful, just as your God is merciful. Do not judge, and you will not be judged: do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back." (Luke 6: 36 - 38)
Further, we have come to believe and experience a God of mercy and compassion, who draws us in unity to eternal life. So in the face of fear and death, we can hope in life and love eternal.

Our Annual College Theme, Honouring God's Creation, reminds us that God is the supreme author of life and death. We honour that in how we live.
We value the dignity of human life and find there is no justification for the Death Penalty.

We ask all to join with us in praying for Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran and their families at this most difficult time.
