We have hosted a range of programs this term, opening our doors to the broader community.

Liverpool Football Club International Academy Australia

As part of our partnership with LFC International Academy Australia we have begun our after school Skills Development Clinics for primary aged students in our College community, with around 30 young players joining us to learn to play the Liverpool way. Led by Sharon Walsh, Stephanie Farrugia, Morgan Skiba and Emily Sainty, our players were kitted out in the LFC uniform and have participated in a range of exercises and drills to foster their soccer skills. A focus on ambition, commitment, dignity and unity complements the College’s passion to bring out the best in all of our students.

In addition to the skills sessions, we have also embedded the LFC curriculum into the Year 7 HPE curriculum. HPE Domain Leader, Louis Tsui Po is leading the team as they embed these aspirational values into the HPE lessons.

She Who Explores: Primary School Taster Sessions

We have also had the pleasure of welcoming Grade 4 and 5 girls into our Food Technology classroom this month. They have been supported by our student leaders who have helped them to cook okonomiyaki and bibimbap in our kitchen. This has been a wonderful experience for both the visiting primary students and for the College. We have loved hosting primary school students and seeing our students proudly share their space in the College.

Mother’s Day Breakfast

The recent Mother’s Day Breakfast was a highlight of the term as we welcomed back Eloise Southby (Class of 1994), Australian Netball Commentator and Former Australian Diamonds Netballer for a Q&A panel, led by student leaders. Our students explored themes of Eloise’s journey, including her time playing professional netball, her agility in exploring career options and how she is able navigate the challenges of professional life. We were overjoyed to be joined by so many mothers and grandmothers for breakfast as our community came together to celebrate the special women in the lives of our students.

Dr Justin Coulson

We are thrilled to be partnering with St Columba’s College to host Dr Justin Coulson on Thursday, 30 May at 7.00pm. Justin will be presenting his Carrots and Sticks workshop, focusing on how we set boundaries and work with our teenagers to build relationships while also building their resilience and growth.

You can find out more about Justin’s ideas here: Q&A: When Parents Have Divergent Opinions About Discipline (youtube.com)

Bookings are now closed, however, limited places may still be available. If you are interested in attending and have not yet booked, please email Natalie.Meddis@avemaria.vic.edu.au.

Indonesia International Learning Tour

We will be holding the information evening for the upcoming Indonesia International Learning Tour on Tuesday, 28 May in the library. The session will run from 6.30pm to 8.00pm and will be hosted by Carla Godoy, our Tour Leader. Students should attend with their parents.

The tour will depart on Saturday, 22 June and return on Monday, 8 July. Students will explore a diverse range of locations and experiences as they immerse themselves in the language, culture and food of Indonesia.
