Dear Students, Parents, and Staff,

I am delighted to welcome you all to a new school year at Ave Maria College, I hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer break and are ready for the exciting challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. I would like to extend a warm welcome to our incoming new Year 7 students and those who are joining us at other year levels. You are now part of a wonderful community of learners. I look forward to getting to know you and supporting you in your journey as members of the Ave Maria Community.

This year, our college theme is 'Through contemplation with God, I find my purpose'. This theme invites us to reflect on how we can deepen our relationship with God and discover the unique gifts and talents that he has given us. It also challenges us to use those gifts and talents to serve others and make a positive difference in the world. As a Catholic College in the Franciscan Tradition, we are called to be people of faith, learning, compassion, service and excellence. I encourage you to embrace this theme and live it out in your daily actions and interactions.

One of the ways we can demonstrate these values is by having high expectations for ourselves and others. This means striving to do our best in all aspects of our college life, whether it is academic, spiritual, social, or co-curricular. It also means respecting and supporting each other, being responsible and honest, and following the college rules and policies. High expectations are not only about achieving good results, but also about developing good habits, attitudes, and character. They are an important part of being a member of this community. I urge you to set yourself realistic and challenging goals for this year and work hard to achieve them.

We are immensely proud of the achievements of all of our students, but today I would like to acknowledge and congratulate students who have excelled in the arts and sporting arenas. We would like to congratulate the following students:

  • Katelyn Hon, Graduating Class of 2023, who has been selected to exhibit her VCE Product Design and Technology work in Top Designs 2024 at Melbourne Museum. Top Designs is an annual exhibition coordinated by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) in partnership with Museums Victoria, showcasing outstanding design works made by VCE and VCE VET students from schools across the state. Congratulations and well done!
  • Chiara Hutchison, of Year 12, who will compete in the National Age Group Swimming Championships later this term and the National Open Age Group Swimming Championships in the first week of Term 2. Chiara is a talented swimmer who has been training hard and achieving great results, so we wish her all the best in these competitions.

  • Bianca Motta, of Year 12, who won her first senior international gold medal at the Canada Taekwondo Open and has since backed it up with another gold at the USA Taekwondo Open. Bianca is a dedicated and skilled athlete who has been representing Australia in various competitions. Congratulations and well done!

I am sure you will join me in both congratulating them and wishing them well. As a community, we look forward to celebrating their success with them.

We are also pleased to welcome some new staff members to our College, as well as some who have taken on new leadership positions. We are confident that they will bring their expertise and enthusiasm to our College and enhance our learning and teaching environment. Please join us in welcoming the following staff members:

As we begin this new College year, let us pray that God will bless us with His grace and guidance. Let us also pray that we will live out our College Theme and find our purpose in Him. I share with you this prayer that reflects our theme:

God of wisdom and love,

we thank you for the gift of this new school year.

We ask you to bless our college community,

and to guide us in our learning and growth.

Help us to deepen our relationship with you,

and to discover the purpose that you have for us.

Grant us the grace to use our gifts and talents for your glory,

and for the service of others.

May we always uphold our college values,

and be respectful, just, compassionate, and hospitable.

May we always support one another,

and celebrate our achievements and diversity.

May we always strive for excellence,

and seek your will in all that we do.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

On behalf of the College, I wish you all a wonderful and successful year ahead.

God bless and may we continue to strive for truth through love.

Yours sincerely,

Ms Tanya Hutton
