Dante Alighieri Poetry Recitation Competition
A number of students from Years 9 to 11 studying Italian took part in the Dante Alighieri Poetry Recitation Competition which resulted in three finalists being chosen. Overall there were 3342 students across Victoria who took part in the competition and on the day of the finals, there were 410 candidates vying for a win.
Students from Ave Maria College who were successful in making it to the finals were Elisha Andres (Year 9), Katia Pietrolungo (Year 11) and Deanna Fimiani (Year 12). From this group Deanna was awarded 2nd prize in the Year 12 Italian-Australian category and Katia was awarded 3rd prize in the Year 11 Italian-Australian category.
Students will reeive their prize on Friday, 14 September at the Dante Alighieri Society Awards Evening being held at the University of Melbourne.
Swinburne Junior Poetry Competition
Congratulations are extended to students from 7B, 7D and 7F who studied Italian in Semester 1 and took part in the Swinburne Junior Poetry Competition. Everyone performed well and certificates of Honourable Mention and Merit were awarded to the participants.
Two students performed exceptionally well and were awarded prizes for their performance in the Italian Section. Madeline Piccione received 2nd place and a $50 voucher, while Alessia Torcaso was awarded 3rd place and a $40 voucher.
