Mooting Competition on the Gold Coast
On Friday, 18 May we were very fortunate to travel to with our mentor and teacher Grace Ciavarella to the Gold Coast for the National High School Mooting Competition held at Bond University. Ave Maria College was invited to compete in this competition and we were very proud to be representing the school at this prestigious competition.
Mooting is a mock trial in which both sides present a legal argument on a given case in front of judges in a court room environment following all of the legal formalities. For this competition we argued on behalf of the appellate in case of negligence.
The event was a great opportunity to develop our advocacy, legal, critical thinking and communication skills. We also participated in numerous seminars that enhanced our understanding of law school and the pathways associated with this profession. This experience helped us broaden our legal knowledge, as well interact with other students from around Australia. Overall this was a fabulous opportunity to take and apply our legal studies knowledge outside the four walls of the classroom.
