Ms Tanya Hutton
I am very humbled and honoured to introduce myself to you as the Principal of Ave Maria College. It is truly a privilege to serve and lead this wonderful community.
Prior to commencing at Ave Maria College, I have worked in Catholic Education for 28 years and joined the Ave Maria College community in 2020 following 10 years as a Deputy Principal at both Kolbe Catholic College, Greenvale Lakes and Mount Lilydale Mercy College, Lilydale. I have worked in a mixture of single gender girls and co-educational schools. I initially trained at Deakin University to complete a Bachelor of Education in Maths and Science. Following this and in my ongoing commitment to Catholic Education I completed a Masters of Educational Leadership, Graduate Certificate in Catholic Studies and am currently completing a Masters of Professional Studies in Theology. In 2015 I was also fortunate to participate in the Charism Tour to Europe which enabled me to continue my own faith formation journey by further exploring the Franciscan Charism which has always been very special to me.
As a leader serving in a Catholic school and as an active parishioner, I endeavour to place Christ’s teachings and Gospel values at the heart of what I do and always place an emphasis on improved outcomes for students, whether that be spiritual, academic and/or pastoral. I truly believe that all young people deserve a well-rounded quality Catholic education as each person can learn and experience success in their learning. Young people of today are capable of a deep understanding of the world and how it works. They therefore learn better through creative, flexible and authentic learning opportunities that enable them to be prepared for and connect with the world outside. I am committed toward achieving this for the young women of Ave while encouraging a deep love of learning and a ‘can do’ approach that that specifically caters for the needs of our girls and enables them to be confident young women who thrive and excel in their chosen pathway.
